In 2004 and 2005, she traveled to Uganda, Guatemala, and Ecuador as the Ambassador of Hope for FINCA International, an organization that promotes micro-lending to help finance women-owned businesses in poor countries (increased education and decreased poverty leads to a better understanding and concern for environmental awareness). She also worked on a campaign to help save the tropical habitat of African mountain gorillas. After taking part in these numerous campaigns, Portman released her own line of vegan footwear in the Spring of 2008.

UPDATES :

Hello world, i apologize again for not posting regularly. Well i found this video on YouTube - watch it, its definitely less boring than reading fully written blog posts. In other words, it says that if a dog can stay green, then why can't you? and really it's not that hard lol. Anyway, the point of this blog post was actually about my CAS project which i'm planning to do soon (hopefully) in collaboration with my CAS supervisor and Rotary Club. So what i can tell you so far is that, we will be fundraising via a secondhand book sale, and the money will be used to buy plants/trees for primary school in order to increase their awareness on environmental issues that we are currently facing!

So, yeah, that's basically it for today. I will keep you updated about this coming project!

EARTH HOUR

Hope that you enjoyed the video.! Check out the website by clicking here or by clicking on the 60+ Earth Hour Banner on my sidebar. It’s a really nice website as they tell you what they actually do to protect the planet! The best part is that you can also get involved and they are so many ways for you to do so!

They also do events around the world and on the 31st of March 2012, Mauritius together with Earth Hour organised the event – “Une Heure pour notre Terre” (literally meaning One Hour for Our Earth). Unfortunately that was a past event but I hope that they will do it again next year!

Don't forget to comment if you wish! See you guys soon!

SAVE THE PLANET AND HUMANITY!

Don't freak out! Get involved by  reducing your impact on planet earth!  Here are 5 easy things that you can do at home :

 1. Turn off the lights that you do not use.
2. Install and use inexpensive lighting controls -photo sensors, automatic timers
3. Unplug spare refrigerators and non-use appliances
4. Shorten showers since they account for two-thirds of your water use. Use low flow shower heads.
5. Use appliances efficiently.

Feel free to comment and don't forget to come back to check out my next post! See you!

TAKE ACTION!

Here is a site where you can join in the campaign to stop Global Warming!  -

Join the supporters of the Stop Global Warming Virtual March, and become part of the movement to demand our leaders freeze and reduce carbon dioxide emissions now. We are all contributors to global warming and we all need to be part of the solution.

WHAT IS GLOBAL WARMING?

So, ever wondered what global warming actually is? Over the years, the climate has faced many rapid changes and that is why such a big issue is usually made out of it. My aim will be mainly to help those who have no scientic knowledge on global warming to understand it .
Global warming is happening due to increases  in the amount of  emission of greenhouse  gases that is accumulating in the atmosphere  and it is thus considered to be one of the most challenging  problem that is facing humanity. There are various things that contribute to global warming and they are both natural and human factors. For example some natural causes would be as simple as volcanic activity (because volcanoes release gases into the air) and as for humans - the burning of fossil fuels, pollution and so on.

It is important to know what the 'Greenhouse effect' and the'Enhanced greenhouse effect actually is'. In simple words, here is basically what they are :

1. Greenhouse effect: It is the process by which the earth's atmosphere traps solar radiation via   greenhouse gases (Carbon dioxide, methane etc ...) as they allow incoming sunlight to pass through but absorb heat radiated back from the earth's surface.
2. Enhanced greenhouse effect: The increasing amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere  due to human activity and their impact on the atmospheric systems, including global warming.

Here is a nice and easy diagram showing the greenhouse effect :
